About zinna-IME
An open-source Japanese input method for Android.
Conversion is mozc — the engine behind Google Japanese Input's open-source release — compiled
natively into the app rather than reached over a network. The app declares no permissions at all,
INTERNET included, so nothing you type can leave the device even if a future dependency wanted it
to.
Input
* Flick, QWERTY, or kana on flick with the alphabet on QWERTY
* A second symbol plane for brackets, arrows, maths and typographic marks
* While a key is held, either a preview of what releasing will type or the full cross of four
directions — and the symbol plane can always show the cross, since nobody memorises where ※ is
* Repeated presses of one key type the same character rather than cycling through it
Conversion
* Rule-based correction for mistyped readings, aware of where the keys actually sit on the flick
layout: a slip within one key is treated as likelier than a hit on the neighbour
* Candidates that convert exactly what you typed are ranked ahead of guesses about what you have
not finished typing
* Bundled dictionaries covering Niconico and Pixiv article titles, katakana loanwords with their
English spellings, and Wikipedia headings
Your data
* The conversion history and your own dictionary are encrypted with a key held in the Android
Keystore, which on devices with a secure element cannot be extracted at all
* Everything you cannot recreate — your dictionary, what the engine has learned, your settings —
exports to a single file sealed under a passphrase you choose, and imports back on any device
* Clipboard history stays on the device and skips anything the source marked sensitive
Appearance
* Themes and keyboard layouts are plain JSON files you can replace
* Dark mode, Material You, a background image of your own, adjustable key height, pure black for
OLED panels
