About Clavier Tuner
Clavier Tuner is a piano tuning app made by a piano tuner — free, open source, and built on one idea: the only truth about a string is a measurement of that string.
MEASURE FIRST
Strike a handful of keys with the other strings muted. From those strings the app measures the inharmonicity of your piano and works out where every note belongs, before you tune the first one. The stretch comes from this instrument, not from a table.
TUNE BY THE STROBE
The app follows the key you strike and listens to the partial a tuner would listen to in that register. The strobe shows that partial against its target to a tenth of a cent, at 47 readings a second — a string that wobbles is shown wobbling. Beside the strobe, the bells: every partial of the string, each on its own, so a clean string reads as one stack and a false beat is seen for what it is. When the strobe stands still, the note is in, and the app notes it. No wizard, no verdict dressed up as a number.
YOUR PIANO, YOUR PHONE
Octave type and width per register, the compass, the wound/plain break — the engine carries them as settings and the measurement decides the rest. The session is kept on the phone in one sealed file; continue tomorrow where you stopped. No account, no server, nothing leaves the phone. The microphone is read raw, with every effect switched off.
HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS NOT
Pitch raises are out of scope by design: a piano far from pitch needs a pitch raise first. Unisons are tuned by ear, as they should be.
OPEN
The whole engine is published, with the recordings and documents it was judged on. If you want to know how a number on the screen was made, you can read it.
