Its shape is built to cover conversation: it puts 71 % of its energy in the band where speech lives, against brown noise's 9 %. This is the one you want with headphones on in a room full of people.\n• Pink, the balanced one. The one hearing perceives as most natural, because it spreads equal energy across every octave.\n• White, flat across the spectrum. Good at covering sharp, sudden sounds.\n• Brown, deep and enveloping, closer to distant rain or the sea in the background. The most comfortable for sleeping, and the least able to cover a conversation.\n\nThe noise is not a recording: it is generated on your phone, sample by sample, as you listen. That means there is no loop that repeats until you start noticing it, and none of the metallic texture that compressed audio leaves behind when it tries to compress something with no structure in it. It sounds as clean in the eighth hour as in the first.\n\nThe sleep timer stops the sound whenever you say: in fives up to half an hour, in tens up to an hour, then 90 or 120 minutes. At the end the volume fades down through the last minute instead of cutting out, because an abrupt stop wakes up the person who was finally falling asleep.\n\nYou can control it without opening the app: the notification lets you pause, change sound and add ten minutes to the timer, and your headphone button works too. Close the app and put the phone face down — the sound keeps going.\n\nIt covers the noise the phone itself makes, too: while the sound plays it switches Do Not Disturb on for you, and off again when you stop.
